Support Your Local Girl Gang: Nude Lucy & Vans Celebrate International Women’s Day
Occurring annually, International Women's Day was established to commemorate women’s achievements and accelerate women’s equality. This year’s theme, “Break the Bias” is intended to speak out against both internal and external biases we may hold about women and their role in society.
Just two short months into the year and across the globe talented and pioneering women have already been inspiring and enabling others. At the Australian Open, Ash Barty won her third Grand Slam this time on home turf, inspiring the next generation of young indigenous women to pursue their dreams. Bio scientist, Ronnit Freeman, developed a sugar-based COVID-19 test that not only detects further variants, but has also unlocked new information on how the virus binds to cells to facilitate infection, bringing us closer to ending the pandemic. In January, Danya Kukafka published her sophomore novel,
Notes On An Execution, disrupting the culture of true crime obsession and “the false promise of looking for meaning in the psyches of violent men” by presenting a chilling portrait of the women closest to the perpetrator.
Nude Lucy Donates to Girl Guides
This International Women’s Day,
Nude Lucy are celebrating the achievements of women by launching a collection of three pieces designed in-house at their headquarters, with all proceeds going to Girl Guides Australia. Girl Guides is an organization which has been empowering and nurturing young girls’ self-development since 1915.
Crafted from organic brushed fleece cotton, the
hoodie
features original artwork on the back, representing women of all cultures. An eye-catching line drawing is overlayed with the word “woman” in different languages - a timeless, cross-cultural homage. The relaxed, oversized silhouette means it can be worn by all.
Additionally, Nude Lucy have designed two sweatshirts in "Foam Green" and "Nutmeg Cream" with tonal embroidery to the front and patch branding near the hem. These pieces are also made from organic brushed cotton fleece for a more sustainable fabrication that is soft and luxurious for the wearer.
Vans Celebrates the Divine Feminine
Alongside this activation, fan favourite,
Vans, have launched two new designs in the Old Skool and Slip-On varieties. Celebrating the divine energy of the feminine, both styles feature a flower symbol in brown earthy colours. While the Old Skool keeps it minimal, letting the quirky graphic speak for itself, the Slip-On adopts an eclectic patchwork pattern for a stand-out look. In honour of all those who identify as women and those who support them, the neutral colours and patchwork details represent different communities joining as one.
