Go behind the design with Peter Stoddard, the design director for Brixton.
Peter, thanks for coming in for a chat. Let's start with your role, and how you came to be at Brixton? I’m the Design Director for Brixton. My twin brother David is a co-founder of Brixton, and brought me on board at the very beginning to help with design. I had always been into fashion, but I had been working as a paint and auto body guy for about 10 years before the opportunity at Brixton, so the job definitely changed my life.
How long have you been working for Brixton? Nine years.
What can you tell us about the upcoming SU17 range? Super excited for the Summer 17 range. This season we have plenty of new men’s and women’s caps including updated low, medium and hi-profile options, summer straw, and our popular cut-and-sew caps.
What key styles do you think embodies Brixton? I’d have to say our Heritage styles, classic pieces like our flannels, cut-and-sew caps, and jackets, which work season after season.
The fiddler is having a resurgence can you attribute that to anything of why it’s become such a wardrobe staple for male and females? The Fiddler is one of our original headwear styles, and to me, it’s one of those pieces that never really goes out of style. But I think it’s become popular lately because it’s stylish, versatile, and easy to wear. You can dress it up or down. And it’s an approachable hat. If you never wear hats, it can be a scary thing. But when you try a style like the Fiddler it makes wearing one easy, and they look great on everyone.
What Brixton do you typically wear? All of it! My whole closet is Brixton now, with a few vintage pieces as well, but for the most part Brixton.
What’s the most exciting thing you are focused on right now? I can’t tell you, it’s a secret! ... Just kidding. We’re working on Spring19 right now, and all I can say is that it’s an amazing follow up to the last couple of Spring/Summer seasons. Full of fresh colour and new styles.
